Champaign Fire Department plans ice rescue training session

The Champaign Fire Department is set to conduct surface ice rescue technician training on January 24th and 25th, 2025. The event will take place at Kaufman Lake, located at 2702 W. Springfield Ave., Champaign. Firefighters from the Champaign Fire Department and other local fire departments will be instructed by experts from Muddy River Divers.

The training will commence with classroom sessions at the Champaign Fire Department Station 6, situated at 3911 W. Windsor Rd., before moving to practical exercises at Kaufman Lake. The first day will focus on Ice Rescue Technician skills, followed by an Ice Rescue Train-the-Trainer course on the second day.
