State Senator Chapin Rose | Illinois General Assembly
Senator Chapin Rose from Mahomet has introduced a new bill aimed at strengthening election security in Illinois. The proposed legislation seeks to mandate photo identification for voters at polling stations, make "ballot harvesting" illegal, and eliminate the use of drop boxes for ballot submissions.
Senator Rose explained his motivations, stating, "For far too long, Illinois has ignored basic election security measures that people expect and deserve." He emphasized the need for photo ID requirements and expressed concerns about unsecured drop boxes being used for ballot collection. According to him, these measures are essential to ensure secure and trustworthy elections.
The bill, known as Senate Bill 181, includes several reforms intended to prevent electoral fraud and restore public confidence in the voting process. By implementing stricter voter identification rules and criminalizing "ballot harvesting," Senator Rose aims to enhance accountability and security in Illinois elections.
He further stated, "The right to vote is our most precious right guaranteed by the Constitution. We must take every measure to safeguard it." Senator Rose highlighted concerns about existing laws that could enable non-citizens to vote illegally, arguing that such practices undermine public trust in election outcomes.
Rose concluded by asserting that Illinois voters deserve an election system they can rely on: "Illinois voters deserve an election system they can trust and believe in."
