Champaign Police responded to a shooting incident on the 1900 block of Cynthia Drive at 3:59 p.m. on January 9, 2025. Officers found an 18-year-old man from Champaign with severe gunshot wounds. With help from Champaign County Sheriff's Deputies, they administered medical aid before transporting him to a local hospital, where he later died.

The investigation suggests that the victim and his companions were in a parked vehicle when an unknown individual began shooting at them. The companions fled after the incident, and the shooter remains unidentified. Police are actively seeking witnesses and surveillance footage from nearby residents and businesses to aid their investigation.

Currently, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. "Future updates may be provided as they become available," stated the Champaign Police Department, which expressed gratitude to the Champaign County Sheriff's Office for its support.
