The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire at a single-family home located in the 1500 block of W. Springfield Ave. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 4:38 p.m. The fire crews managed to extinguish the flames quickly.
Firefighters arrived after receiving a report from a passerby about the fire in this two-story residence. Upon arrival, they observed heavy smoke and flames emanating from the front of the house. Fortunately, the two occupants were already outside when the firefighters reached the scene. Multiple hose lines were used by the crews to put out the fire.
Currently, investigators are still on site trying to determine what caused the blaze. There have been no reported injuries among firefighters or residents; however, one dog did not survive. Due to damage from the fire, the occupants will need to find temporary housing.
