Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Laken Riley Act, a legislative measure mandating the Department of Homeland Security to detain illegal immigrants with criminal records. Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL) expressed her support for the bill.
"Today, House Republicans passed the Laken Riley Act to honor the memory a 22-year-old woman who was murdered last year by an illegal alien, who never should've been allowed to cross into our country," stated Miller. She criticized President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their border policies, saying they have allowed "terrorists, gang members, drug traffickers, and child predators" to enter the United States.
Miller further commented on the opposition from House Democrats: "The Riley family would not be grieving today if it were not for weak 'America Last' decision-making coming from the White House. Today, 159 House Democrats voted against protecting our women and girls from criminal aliens." She emphasized that this legislation signifies a shift towards "America First" policies under Republican leadership in Congress.
Miller concluded by expressing optimism about advancing policies reminiscent of those during former President Donald Trump's administration: "House Republicans are ready to advance the Trump administration's 'America First' policies that will protect and strengthen American families and return this country to greatness!"
