FOIA Request to Champaign County Sheriff’s Office Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Chambana Sun have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request specifically seeks access to a list of all arrests made from January 1, 2024, till December 31, 2024.
The information requested includes details such as the arrestee's name, date of arrest, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed. We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public as a media organization, we have also requested for a fee waiver. We will continue to keep you updated on this matter as we strive to provide you with the most comprehensive and accurate news coverage.
