The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire at a single-family home on the 1600 block of Carolyn Dr. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 4:22 p.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze.

Firefighters were alerted by a neighbor about the fire in the one-story home. Upon arrival, they observed heavy smoke and flames emanating from the residence. The occupant was not inside when firefighters arrived. Crews used multiple hose lines to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined as investigators are still on scene conducting their investigation. No firefighter injuries were reported. The occupant received treatment at the scene and was then transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, one dog and one cat perished in the incident. Due to the damage caused by the fire, the occupants will be displaced.
