Village of Rossville Police, Health & Safety Committee met Nov. 18

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

A quorum was established as Chairman Black and Trustees Gammon and Cornell were physically present at the committee meeting held at the Rossville Municipal Building, located at 120 East Attica Street in Rossville, Illinois. Trustee Richison was absent due to him submitting his resignation. The guests present were Mayor Queen and Clerk White.

Chairman Black called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m. The purpose of the meeting was to review/approve past minutes, review outstanding ordinance violations, prior month police actions, monthly ordinance spreadsheet, review maintenance log sheets on police vehicles, Attica/Chicago St. Crosswalk & Street Arrows, Jake Brake signs, proposed solar farm, updated schedule in Shared Drive, and Open Topics.

Minutes of the October 10, 2024 committee meeting – Minutes of the meeting held on October 10, 2024 were presented. Motion was made by Gammon, seconded by Cornell to dispense with the reading of the minutes and approve the minutes of the October 10, 2024 meeting as presented. Vote: Cornell, yes; Gammon, yes; Black, yes.

Police Actions, the Ordinance spreadsheet and vehicle maintenance logs were reviewed. Trustee Black read Chief Greene’s report through November 18, 2024. Chief Greene will need assistance handing out toys at the Toy Giveaway on December 7th at the grade school.

Trustee Gammon suggested having Chief Greene write the vehicle mileage on the report. Attica/Chicago Street Crosswalk and street arrows – Trustee Black called both locations for the company regarding the crosswalks. No response. Trustee Black will try again.

Trustee Black emailed Superintendent Lusk requesting him to order the “Jake Brake” signs for East/West Attica Street. The County will install the signs. Trustee Black will ask Superintendent Lusk if the signs were ordered and ready to install.

Proposed Solar Farm – Trustee Black had a couple of questions to ask Village Attorney Andy Mudd regarding the solar farm. Trustee Black will email the questions to Andy Mudd and also ask if the Village ordinance could be amended to a 3-mile zoning district instead of 1.5 mile zoning district.

New Business – The police schedule will not be emailed any more. Paper copies will continue to be given to those who receive paper copies of the schedule. Trustee Gammon asked why 3 officers are scheduled on Wednesdays and why an officer could work a Monday morning instead.

Open Topics –Trustee Gammon asked what “Adjusted Days Off” are for. Clerk White explained officers are scheduled to patrol 40 hours each week. If a holiday, that the officers do not work, is scheduled in the week, the officer will get paid for 10 hours each holiday day and will need an “adjusted day off” so no overtime has to be paid.

Motion was made by Black, seconded by Cornell to adjourn the meeting. Vote: Gammon, yes; Cornell, yes; Black, yes. The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
