The Champaign Fire Department responded to a residential fire on the 1200 block of Joanne Lane early Monday morning. The incident occurred at 5:11 a.m., and fire crews quickly brought the situation under control.
Firefighters arrived following a report from an occupant about the fire in the single-family home. Upon arrival, they observed moderate smoke emanating from the attic of the single-story building. A hose line was deployed into the residence, allowing firefighters to extinguish the blaze effectively.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation as officials remain on-site conducting their inquiries. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among either firefighters or occupants.
Authorities remind residents that when a smoke alarm sounds, it is crucial to evacuate immediately and stay out. In case of needing to escape through smoke, staying low to the ground is advised. Closing doors behind you can help slow down smoke and fire spread while assisting others in exiting safely.
