No. 19 Illinois faced its first defeat of the season, losing 76-53 to No. 14 Kentucky in the Music City Classic finale on Wednesday night in Nashville, Tennessee. The Illini's record now stands at 6-1.
Adalia McKenzie led Illinois with 18 points and was efficient from the free-throw line, making 10 out of 12 attempts. She also contributed six rebounds and three assists. Kendall Bostic achieved her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds, marking her 100th consecutive start for Illinois.

Illinois had an advantage at the free-throw line, scoring more than Kentucky with a margin of 20-1 and having more attempts at 27-2. Despite this edge, Kentucky capitalized on early shooting struggles by Illinois to gain an initial lead.
In the first quarter, McKenzie scored eight points as Illinois finished strong with an 11-2 run to take an early lead after ten minutes. However, Kentucky responded in the second quarter to tie the game at halftime.
The Wildcats started strong in the third quarter with an early run that extended their lead to double digits by late in the period. Although Illinois managed some recovery through plays by Dolan and Cook, they entered the final quarter trailing.
Kentucky's decisive moment came during an uninterrupted scoring streak in the fourth quarter that ensured their victory over Illinois.
Looking ahead, No.19 Illinois will play against Canisius on Monday for their first road game of this season—a match significant for head coach Shauna Green as it takes place at her alma mater and hometown of sophomore Gretchen Dolan.
