The Champaign Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance on November 16, 2024, at the 2000 Block of Cynthia Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a 71-year-old man from Champaign with a life-threatening stab wound in his home. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by police and fire department personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigations suggest that the victim was involved in a domestic altercation with Dewandee Carter, aged 67, also from Champaign. During this incident, Carter allegedly stabbed the man in the chest. She has been arrested pending charges related to this event. Police officers remained on-site for several hours to conduct a thorough investigation, which included gathering evidence from the residence and canvassing the area for witnesses and video footage.

The investigation is ongoing despite an arrest being made. The Champaign Police are seeking additional information from anyone who might have relevant details about the incident. They encourage individuals to contact them at 217-351-4545 or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 217-373-8477 (TIPS), visiting 373tips.com, or using the “P3 Tips” mobile app.

Crime Stoppers ensures complete anonymity for those submitting tips; calls are directed to a third-party national call center where information is documented and forwarded to law enforcement without recording conversations or using caller ID tracking.

It is important to note that all individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
