FOIA Request to City of Champaign Regarding New and Active Residential and Commercial Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent by us at the Chambana Sun to the City of Champaign, Illinois. The request, dated October 30, 2024, seeks comprehensive information about both new and active residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, till the date of the request.
The requested data includes a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued within this timeframe with specific details such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where the permit is applicable, and contractor's name.
Additionally, we have also asked for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields are required for these active permits as well.
As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs in Champaign city, we believe that access to public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for our readership. We have therefore requested a fee waiver under our capacity as media professionals.
