A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Danville Finance Department regarding sales tax records on October 25, 2024. The request was made by Chambana Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we sought detailed information about the sales tax collected from retailers since the beginning of the year until the present date. Specifically, we requested for data on sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected figures, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month, and names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported each month.
We believe that access to these public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include providing transparency to the public and holding public institutions accountable. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also asked for a fee waiver for this request.
The City Of Danville Finance Department has yet to respond to our request. We remain committed to keeping our readers informed about local governmental affairs and will continue our efforts to obtain this important information.
