Illinois secured a place in the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) semifinals with a 69-61 victory over Tulsa. The match, held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, saw Illinois leading for most of the game after overcoming an early deficit. Genesis Bryant led Illinois with 19 points and four rebounds. Kendall Bostic achieved her second consecutive double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds.
Makira Cook scored 17 points, including the final 13 for Illinois, ensuring their win despite Tulsa narrowing the gap to six points towards the end. Camille Hobby contributed eight points and eight rebounds, while Adalia McKenzie added ten points to the team's tally.
The Illini's strong start included a significant scoring run that set them ahead early on. Despite Tulsa's efforts to catch up, Illinois maintained control throughout the game. Their defensive play forced nine turnovers from Tulsa in the first half alone.
With this win, Illinois advances to face Washington State in Indianapolis at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Monday. Coach Shauna Green noted this as part of a successful season for Illinois basketball under her leadership.
