Clint Sintim has been appointed as the outside linebackers coach for the University of Illinois, as announced by head coach Bret Bielema. His contract is awaiting approval from the University of Illinois Board of Trustees at their March meeting.
"I am excited about what Coach Sintim will bring to our program and our outside linebackers room," stated Bielema. "Coach Sintim's experiences as a player at Virginia, then with the New York Giants, and now in coaching, will bring tremendous value to our team, as well as our recruiting in the state of Illinois and the East Coast. He will be a great addition to our Illini football famILLy."
Expressing his enthusiasm for joining Illinois, Sintim said, "I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Illinois football program under Coach Bielema's leadership. During my interview, I had a great feeling about the team and staff. My wife, Angie, and our children are excited to begin this next chapter in Champaign."
Sintim comes from a coaching stint at Virginia where he spent four years; initially coaching the defensive line from 2020-21 before moving on to linebackers from 2022-23. A veteran with ten years in college coaching following an All-American playing career at Virginia and four seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants.
During his time at Virginia last season, Sintim coached freshman linebacker Kam Robinson who received multiple Freshman All-America honors after making eight starts and appearing in all 12 games for Virginia.
Sintim contributed significantly to Virginia's defensive improvements in 2022 with notable performances including that of All-ACC linebacker Nick Jackson. Under his guidance, Virginia achieved high rankings within ACC categories such as pass defense and sacks per game.
Prior engagements include coaching roles at Delaware (2017-19), Richmond (2015-16), West Alabama (2014), along with participating in NFL internship programs with Washington Redskins during their preseason camp.
A native of Woodbridge, Virginia, Clint Sintim is also noted for his distinguished collegiate playing career where he accumulated numerous accolades while playing for Virginia.
Sintim holds a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Virginia obtained in 2009. He lives with his wife Angie and their two children Aniyah and Amari.
