Illinois men's gymnast Brandon Dang has been recognized as the Big Ten Specialist of the Week following his performance at the 2024 EVO Elite Collegiate Open against Simpson. The announcement was made by the conference office on Monday.
Dang, an electrical engineering major from San Jose, California, secured a victory in the pommel horse event for No. 5 Illinois with a score of 14.950. This score is noted as the fourth-highest in the event this season. This marks Dang's first time receiving the Event Specialist of the Week award.
In recent weeks, other gymnasts from Illinois have also been acknowledged for their performances. On January 15, Garrett Schooley received recognition, followed by Brandon Dang himself on January 22 and again on January 29 alongside Logan Myers and Will Hauke. Tate Costa and Brandon Dang were recognized on February 5.
The continued achievements highlight Illinois' strong presence in collegiate gymnastics this season.
