Six former University of Illinois golfers are participating in various professional golf events this week. Head coach Mike Small is joining his former teammate Steve Stricker on the PGA TOUR Champions.
Thomas Detry, ranked 52nd in the Official World Golf Rankings, will compete at the Memorial presented by Workday at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. This event serves as a preparation for the U.S. Open from June 13-16 at Pinehurst, where he is exempt from qualifying due to his top-60 ranking.
In Madison, Wisconsin, Steve Stricker and Mike Small will participate in the American Family Insurance Championship at University Ridge Golf Club. Stricker won this event last year and secured six PGA TOUR Champions victories during that season. For Small, it marks his first PGA TOUR Champions event of this season. He has made cuts in 18 out of 19 appearances on the tour and was recently named Midwest Coach of the Year by the GCAA for the 13th time.
On the Korn Ferry Tour, Brian Campbell and Dylan Meyer are competing in the BMW Charity Pro-Am. Campbell aims to follow Adrien Dumont de Chassart's victory from last year and is currently ranked 11th on the tour's points list. Meyer is playing his fourth event of the season after making two out of three cuts.
Thomas Pieters returns to LIV Golf Houston after achieving a T5 finish in Singapore last month. Ranked No. 22 in LIV player standings, Pieters also played at the DP World Tour's Soudal Open in Belgium with fellow Illini Adrien Dumont de Chassart and Matthis Besard.
