The Illinois men's golf team, ranked 17th nationally in the latest NCAA Division I team rankings, is set to compete in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational this weekend. The event will be held at Augusta University's Forest Hills Golf Club from April 6-7. The tournament is co-hosted by the Augusta Golf Association and the Haskins Foundation.
Forest Hills Golf Club, a par-72 course spanning 7,086 yards, has a rich history in college golf. Originally designed by Donald Ross and renovated by the Arnold Palmer Company in 2004, it has been named "Best Public Course" by Augusta Magazine multiple times.
The tournament format includes a 54-hole competition over two days with a five-count-four structure. Play begins on Saturday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET/7:30 a.m. CT and continues Sunday with tee times starting at the same time.
The field consists of 15 teams, including eight top-50 programs such as North Carolina (1), Oklahoma (14), Texas (18), East Tennessee State (19), Mississippi State (26), Oklahoma State (32), South Florida (47), and Illinois (17). Other participating teams include Augusta University (86) and several others ranked below the top 100.
Illinois' lineup features Jackson Buchanan, Max Herendeen, Ethan Wilson, Ryan Voois, and Tyler Goecke. Buchanan and Voois have previous experience at this event; Buchanan finished T25 as a freshman in 2022 and T8 last year.
The individual champion will earn an exemption into the 2025 PGA TOUR Valspar Championship at Innisbrook's Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Fla., scheduled for March 17-23.
Live scoring for the event will be available on GolfStat.com. Results will be posted on FightingIllini.com after each day of competition.
Following this tournament, Illinois will host the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate on April 20-21 at Atkins Golf Club.
