The 21st-ranked Fighting Illini men's golf team concluded their Southeast Atlantic Coast trip with a match play exhibition against No. 20 Texas, resulting in a 5.5-1.5 defeat at the Chechessee Creek Club in Okatie, South Carolina.

Both teams had previously competed at The Johnnie-O at Sea Island earlier in the week and added this exhibition to their schedules after losing a day of competition due to rain during the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational last September. Since the adoption of the NCAA Championship's current format in 2009, Illinois and Texas have made a combined total of 15 NCAA Match Play appearances.

Most matches were closely contested, with six out of seven requiring at least 16 holes for a decision. Senior Piercen Hunt secured the only decisive victory for Illinois with a 4&3 win over Ben Delarosa from Texas.

Two matches went to full length; junior Jackson Buchanan tied with Christaan Haas, while Keaton Vo narrowly defeated Illini's Timmy Crawford by one hole. Tyler Goecke and freshman Ethan Wilson lost their respective matches to Nathan Petronzio and Jacob Sosa, both by scores of 2&1. Freshman Max Herendeen and sophomore Ryan Voois were defeated by Tommy Morrison and Brian Stark, respectively, each falling by a margin of 3&2.

Looking ahead, the Illini are set to compete again on March 25-26 at the Duck Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon at Eugene Country Club.
