The Illinois women's gymnastics team, ranked 23rd nationally, is set to compete in Columbus, Ohio. They will face off against the 15th-ranked Ohio State, Kent State, and Bowling Green on March 1 at the Covelli Center. Following this meet, Illinois will return home to host Bowling Green on March 3 for the Women's Empowerment meet at Huff Hall.
Ohio State recently participated in a strong Big Five Meet performance, securing second place with a score of 197.000. They finished ahead of Minnesota (196.900), Nebraska (195.725), and Rutgers (194.300) but were narrowly beaten by Michigan State who scored 197.200.
Kent State comes into the competition after defeating Central Michigan with a score of 196.025-195.425 in a conference match-up. Three Kent State gymnasts earned event wins: Dani Fuertez on beam, Nastia Rudnitskaya tied for vault, and Karlie Franz claimed her fourth floor title this season.
Bowling Green secured a close victory over Long Island with their best score of the season at 195.925-195.875, tying for the ninth-best team total in their program's history.
Illinois recently dropped two places in national rankings to No. 23 despite achieving three consecutive season-high scores: 196.550 at GymQuarters Invitational and two scores of 196.850 against No. 15 Minnesota and at the Big Five Meet.
