Illinois soccer faced a challenging match against UCLA, resulting in a 3-1 defeat at Demirjian Park. The Illini, with a current record of 6-7-2 and 2-5-1 in conference play, were unable to overcome the Bruins, who improved their record to 12-2-2 and 7-0-1.
The match saw Illinois fall behind early, with UCLA securing a lead through a penalty kick in the 32nd minute. Despite this setback, Illinois goalkeeper Izzy Lee made several crucial saves, including three within the first 13 minutes and six by halftime, to keep her team competitive.
UCLA extended their advantage with another goal in the 51st minute. However, Illinois responded quickly when Angie Galo scored from a free kick just one minute later. Her long-range effort from 25 yards out found its way past the UCLA keeper, narrowing the score to 2-1.
The Bruins solidified their victory with a third goal in the 58th minute. Despite efforts from Illinois to close the gap again, they could not find another breakthrough.
Looking ahead, Illinois will travel for a two-match road trip starting Thursday against Indiana in Bloomington. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT kickoff.
