Illinois soccer is set to continue its Big Ten season with a match against Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana. The game will take place at Folk Field on Sunday, October 6, at 12 p.m. CT.

This season marks the 28th year for Illinois soccer and the 23rd under head coach Janet Rayfield. The team currently holds an overall record of 288-222-48.

In their last matches, Illinois experienced mixed results. They suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Nebraska on September 26 but secured a victory over Maryland with the same scoreline on September 29. Goalkeeper Izzy Lee was notable for her performance against Nebraska, making nine saves.

Illinois has a historical advantage over Purdue with a series lead of 15-10-3 and won their last encounter on October 15, 2023. Purdue enters this match with a record of 6-5-1 and was predicted to finish in the lower half of the Big Ten standings this season.

Sarah Foley has been instrumental for Illinois this season, leading the team with eight goals and four game-winning strikes. Her performance places her among the top scorers in the conference.

Izzy Lee's contributions have also been significant; she has recorded three clean sheets and leads Big Ten keepers in total saves.

The Illini's offensive efforts rank them seventh in goals within the conference, while their defense has shown resilience by allowing minimal shots on goal during key matches.

The upcoming match against Purdue represents another opportunity for Illinois to improve its standing in conference play as they aim to build momentum through consistent performances both offensively and defensively.
