On Sunday, September 15, 2024, the Jordan Drive neighborhood watch hosted their annual ice cream social. Members of the 22 households that make up the group look forward to the event each year as a way to catch up with their neighbors. That same evening, the South Willis neighborhood group hosted their 41st annual block party. The long-standing tradition combines a neighborhood potluck with the opportunity for people to discuss what’s happening in their neighborhood.

The United Garden Hills Neighborhood Association met on Monday, September 16, 2024. The group meets monthly to discuss neighborhood issues and opportunities. Going forward, the group will be moving its meeting location and time. They will be meeting on the third Monday of each month at Fire Station 5 from 6-7 pm.

The Garden Park & Edgebrook Drive neighborhood group hosted their first indoor meeting of the fall at the Martens Center on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The group leaders were thrilled by the level of participation and enthusiasm. Most of the neighbors in attendance were new to the neighborhood group meeting. NSD will continue to support the group as they plan their upcoming meetings and fall social event.

On Thursday, September 19, 2024, the Beardsley Park Neighborhood Association hosted a block party. Neighbors enjoyed grilled food, a bounce house, and music while catching up with each other.

The neighborhood group social events were supported by the City’s small grant program, which helps cover costs of eligible neighborhood-based engagement activities.

Neighborhood Services hosted the final CNNC Live! event with a neighborhood meeting in Bristol Place on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Neighbors received information on programming and available scholarships for the Martens Center and an update on Phase II of the Bristol Place redevelopment. Staff from E&E shared information on wraparound support offered to individuals and families affected by incidents of gun violence. NSD also provided information on the City’s Consolidated Plan process and organizing as a registered neighborhood group.
