On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, city staff from six different departments came together to execute the first-ever Government 101 Resource Expo at the Champaign Public Library. This event was a collaboration between the City of Champaign and City of Urbana, designed as a low-pressure way for community members to learn about city resources, ask questions, meet city staff, and become more comfortable with government operations.
The event was coordinated by the Citizenship and Civic Engagement group within the Champaign County Welcoming Plan as part of Welcoming Week. Various city departments (Equity & Engagement Department (E&E), Police Department (CPD), Public Works (PW), Neighborhood Services Department (NSD), Fire Department (CFD), Planning & Development Department (P&D), and METCAD) participated by providing pamphlets, giveaways, and displays.
Attendees also engaged in a bingo activity that made them eligible for prizes from businesses around the Champaign and Urbana area. The event offered food and beverages featuring a variety of cultural dishes. Interpretation services were available in Spanish, French, Chinese, and Korean.
