In August 2024, the City launched a new online process for liquor license applications and renewals. Through OpenGov, those interested in obtaining a liquor license for any type of business or temporary event can now apply entirely online. This paperless process is designed to be more environmentally friendly, allowing applicants to check the status of their application, submit additional documentation, and securely pay licensing fees via online banking or credit card.

Multiple City departments collaborated with OpenGov for over a year to develop the platform. These included staff from the Finance Department, City Manager’s Office, and Information Technologies Department.

As part of this transition to an online licensing process, the City moved the liquor license renewal and application responsibilities to the Finance Department. This department already processes several other city licenses. Although the Liquor Commissioner’s Office still plays an active role in reviewing and approving all liquor licenses—including enforcement—the Finance Department has taken charge of inquiries and processing related to liquor licenses.
