Illinois announces nonconference schedule for women’s basketball team

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The third nonconference schedule of the Shauna Green era at Illinois has been announced and features nine home games, including three contests against in-state programs.

In addition to the previously announced Music City Classic, the Fighting Illini will play one true road game at Canisius – Green's alma mater.

The 2024-25 campaign will kick off with an exhibition against Lewis on Friday, Nov. 1, from State Farm Center. The following Thursday, Florida State comes to town. From there, Marquette visits for a Sunday, Nov. 10 showdown. The rest of the five-game regular season homestand includes visits from Eastern Illinois (Thursday, Nov. 14), Le Moyne (Monday, Nov. 18), and Oregon State (Friday, Nov. 22).

Illinois will head to Nashville, Tenn., for Thanksgiving week with two games in the Music City Classic on deck. The Illini will face Maryland Eastern Shore (Tuesday, Nov. 26) and Kentucky (Wednesday, Nov. 27).

December opens with a trip to Canisius on Monday, Dec. 2 when Green will coach against her alma mater for the second time in as many seasons.

Nonconference play will wrap up with three straight home games for the Orange and Blue as Bradley comes to town Thursday, Dec. 12 followed by Southern Indiana on Sunday, Dec. 15 and Southern on Friday, Dec. 20.

Fighting Illini sophomores Cori Allen (Nashville, Tenn.) and Gretchen Dolan (Buffalo, N.Y.) will both be playing back in their hometowns during Illinois' 2024-25 nonconference slate.

Illinois' full Big Ten schedule will be released at a later date. Home and road matchups for the 18-game Big Ten schedule were announced in May.

New season tickets for the 2024-25 Fighting Illini women's basketball campaign are on sale now. Illinois enters Year Three under head coach Shauna Green and has compiled a 24-8 record at home over the last two seasons including two upsets of AP top-15 ranked teams: No.12 Iowa (1/1/23) and No.14 Indiana (2/19/24).

In two years under Green the Illinois women's basketball team has registered forty-one wins the first postseason championship in program history (2024 WBIT) and back-to-back top-five season attendances in State Farm Center.

The Fighting Illini are coming off winning the inaugural WBIT championship last season securing a nineteen-fifteen record including five straight wins to close the campaign Illinois returns a core that includes four of last year's starters more than eighty-one percent of minutes played nearly eighty-five percent of scoring.
