The Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments responded to a fire in a commercial dryer at a hotel and conference center at 1900 S. First St., Sunday, September 1, 2024, at 6:04 p.m. Once on the scene, firefighters reported a fire in a commercial dryer. Crews deployed a single hose line and were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
The fire was primarily contained to the commercial dryer. Firefighters remain on scene clearing the building of any remaining smoke. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported.
