Champaign Police were dispatched at 5:13 a.m. on August 24, 2024, to the 1400 block of N. Market Street for a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers quickly located a 17-year-old Champaign man with a life-threatening gunshot wound. CPD officers and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department rendered immediate medical aid until he could be transported to an area hospital. He remains hospitalized in serious condition.
The initial investigation indicates that the man was walking along Market Street when he heard several gunshots before realizing that he had been wounded. Information on this incident is limited due to a lack of witnesses. Officers and investigators with the Champaign Police Department continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
