Champaign honored with procurement award at Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce Convention

On August 7, 2024, Mikal Washington from the Equity and Engagement Department and Adonis Fuller from the Finance Department attended the Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce Convention in Peoria, IL. City staff participated in a matchmaking session where they discussed the benefits of joining the Champaign Diversity Advancement Program (CDAP), the process for becoming a vendor with the City of Champaign, and upcoming contracting opportunities.

During the event, the City of Champaign received the Outstanding City for Procurement Award. This award is based on best practices and policy implementation regarding procurement for minority-owned businesses. The award recognizes a city in Illinois for its leadership, commitment, and innovation towards diversity and inclusion in procurement policies and practices at the municipal level. City Manager Dorothy David presented the award to City Council on August 20th. City staff from the Equity and Engagement, Finance, Legal, and Public Works Departments were also recognized for their work regarding CDAP.
