On Thursday, August 15, 2024, Neighborhood Services held a meeting for residents of the Stone Gate and Green Meadows neighborhoods at Centennial High School. Staff from the Fire Department discussed fire safety and explained the requirements for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Information on receiving smoke detector installations and other fire safety training was also shared. Police staff provided crime statistics for the area and offered tips for crime prevention.
Neighborhood Services Department (NSD) staff presented an overview of housing rehabilitation programs available to low-income homeowners, including information on qualifications. They explained the Consolidated Plan process and how input can be accepted from residents of Champaign and Urbana. Additionally, they provided guidance on organizing and re-registering neighborhood groups. Information will be sent out to attendees to convene a meeting to start that process.
A similar meeting for residents of the Ridgewood, Kenwood, and Holiday Park neighborhoods is scheduled for August 29, 2024, at Kenwood Elementary School.
