The City of Champaign has announced the expansion of closed captioning services for CGTV, the City's government access channel. Initially, the City began captioning all its video programming in English in 2022. This summer, CGTV expanded to offer captions in additional languages. Viewers watching on-demand videos recorded after July 1, 2024, can now choose from English, Spanish, French, and Korean captions. For those watching live programming via the live stream or cable TV, captions are available in English and Spanish.

These languages were selected following a review of Champaign's latest Census data and consultations with local service providers.

"This new service reflects the City’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility," a City spokesperson stated. The initiative aims to ensure that more residents have access to important information about City functions and services in their preferred language. By offering these additional language options, the City seeks to foster a more inclusive community where everyone can stay informed and engaged with City business.

Visit the City's on-demand video library for more information.
