APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

• May 28, 2024 Regular Study Session

CM Pianfetti, seconded by CM Gladney, moved to approve the minutes. A voice vote was taken; all voted yes.

TOPICS DISCUSSED:

REQUEST FOR HONORARY STREET NAMES: MARK RUBEL AND CHARLES O. NASH, SR [SS 2024-018]

Staff Presentation: Project Specialist Vermillion’s presentation included the following topics:

• Background Information

• Honorary Street Application Procedures

• Mark Rubel

• Proposed Honorary Mark Rubel Way

• Charles O. Nash, Sr.

• Proposed Honorary Charles O. Nash, Sr. Way

• Honorary Street Application Review

Action Recommended: The Administration seeks Council direction on preparing the Resolutions for the honorary streets, designating:

• Taylor Street (between Market Street and Walnut Street) as Honorary Mark Rubel Way

• Bradley Avenue (between Prospect Avenue and Willis Avenue) as Honorary Charles O. Nash, Sr. Way

Council General Discussion: Council Members’ comments included appreciation to everyone in attendance and everyone who shared their stories; support for the honorary signage; Mark Rubel and Charles O. Nash, Sr. are everyday heroes that make the community great; and support exists within the community and outside of the community for both men.

Poll: Mayor Feinen polled to direct staff to prepare a Resolution to be placed on a Regular Meeting Agenda for Council action on the honorary street designation for Mark Rubel Way. The result of the poll was 8 ayes and 0 nays.

Mayor Feinen polled to direct staff to prepare a Resolution to be placed on a Regular Meeting Agenda for Council action on the honorary street designation for Charles O. Nash, Sr. Way. The result of the poll was 8 ayes and 0 nays.

Mayor Feinen called for a break at 7:40 p.m. and the meeting resumed at 7:48 pm.

Council/Manager Comments: Council Members’ comments included comments regarding the interaction at Meijer towards Dua Aldasouqi; encouraging citizens to be prepared to step up and help people that are in threatening situations, and to take advantage of the City’s Human Rights Ordinance/Complaints by contacting the City’s Equity and Engagement Department; and the need to report such incidents to the Police Department.

Adjournment: CM Pianfetti, seconded by CM Gladney, moved to adjourn. A voice vote was taken on the motion to adjourn; all voted yes.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:58 p.m.
