Champaign Police Lieutenant Andre Davis has announced his retirement following 20 years of service to the City of Champaign. Davis, a Champaign native and 1991 graduate of Centennial High School, will mark his last day with CPD on Friday, July 12, 2024.

“I am proud of the twenty years I have spent in service to my hometown and thankful to have shared that time with the committed team at the Champaign Police Department,” said Davis. “I am thankful for the officers that trained me up, my incredible family that supported me through long shifts and tough cases, and for the community that has given me the opportunity to serve.”

Davis was hired as a patrol officer in 2004. Prior to that, he served seven years in the United States Navy before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Sciences and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Illinois Springfield. During his service to the City of Champaign, Davis spent six years as a detective, where he was known to excel at coordinating large, complex cases from initial investigation to successful prosecution. Throughout his career, Davis was committed to the Department’s Field Training Program, including serving as Field Training Commander from 2021 to 2023. The positions he has held include:

- Field Training Officer

- Crisis Negotiator

- Detective

- Patrol Sergeant

- Field Training Sergeant

- Administrative Sergeant for Special Events and Alcohol Enforcement

- Patrol Lieutenant

- Field Training Unit Commander

“For two decades, Andre Davis has stood as a shining example of the finest that Champaign Police have to offer,” said Police Chief Timothy T. Tyler. “His strong commitment to training our teammates has directly impacted this department today and for years to come. We are thankful for his service and the impact he has made on Champaign Police and the policing profession.”

In 2016, Davis was named both Champaign Police Officer of the Year and Detective of the Year. He is widely known among peers for his upbeat and encouraging demeanor, his deeply held ties to the community, and his strong advocacy for his team. Davis has been the recipient of several department commendations and earned the Champaign Police Medal of Valor in 2006.
