Champaign Police were dispatched at 11:28 p.m. on June 5, 2024, to a hotel in the 900 block of W. Bloomington Road for a report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located a 34-year-old male victim from Tolono with a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest. The man was conscious and alert while officers and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department immediately rendered medical aid until he could be transported to an area hospital. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

The initial investigation indicates that the victim was visiting an acquaintance at the hotel when an unidentified subject approached and robbed him and another guest of their belongings. During the robbery, a shot was fired, and the man was struck. The robber then fled the area.

Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
