The Public Works Department of Champaign has announced a temporary lane closure on Mattis Avenue to facilitate sidewalk construction. Anderson Brothers 3 will be undertaking the construction work that necessitates the closure.
According to the announcement, the closure will affect one southbound lane of Mattis Avenue, specifically the stretch between Broadmoor Drive and Devonshire Drive. The closure is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, March 27, and will remain in effect until Friday, April 5, 2024. The closure timings are set between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., subject to weather conditions, with the lane reopening overnight.
City officials have advised that southbound traffic in the vicinity will be limited to one lane during the period of the closure to ensure the safety of both road users and construction workers.
This lane closure is a necessary step in the ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure within the city, particularly in enhancing pedestrian pathways for the community.
Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly to accommodate potential delays caused by the lane closure on Mattis Avenue.
The Public Works Department has not disclosed any alternative routes for motorists affected by the temporary closure.
