WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL) visited Eagle Pass, Texas, on a congressional delegation to assess the current situation at the border. Accompanied by Speaker Mike Johnson, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, and House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, Rep. Miller expressed grave concerns regarding the Biden administration's handling of border security.
In a statement, Rep. Miller highlighted the alarming number of illegal entries into the country, stating, "Joe Biden is violating his oath to defend our nation's borders and uphold our immigration laws. In December alone, more than 300,000 illegal aliens entered our country, which is roughly half the size of the population I represent in Illinois' 15th district."
Emphasizing the severity of the situation, Rep. Miller described the influx of illegal immigrants as the "largest national security threat since 9/11." She noted the alarming fact that millions of foreign nationals are slipping into the interior undetected, with some intending to cause harm. Rep. Miller also raised concerns about the safety of women and young girls, highlighting the prevalence of rape and sexual assault by cartels and human traffickers. Additionally, she expressed alarm at the official count of 100,000 missing children.
Rep. Miller further criticized the financial burden placed on American taxpayers due to the Biden administration's approach to immigration. She stated, "In the Del Rio sector alone, the federal government is spending $32 million of taxpayer dollars per week to process and facilitate illegal entry. American taxpayers are also footing the bill for the billions of dollars that are being used for housing and healthcare for the illegal aliens."
Highlighting the demographics of those crossing the border illegally, Rep. Miller stressed that "60-70 percent of foreign nationals crossing illegally are military-aged men, and they come from more than 100 countries, including those hostile toward the U.S." She contrasted the Trump administration's efforts to curb illegal immigration, such as the "remain in Mexico" policy and the construction of the border wall, with President Biden's actions, accusing him of endangering the lives of Americans by reversing these policies and allowing over 8 million illegal immigrants into the country.
The visit to Eagle Pass and Rep. Miller's statement shed light on the ongoing border crisis and the concerns held by some members of Congress regarding the Biden administration's approach to border security. As the debate over immigration policy continues, it remains to be seen what actions will be taken to address the challenges at the border.
