City of Danville Board of Fire & Police Commissioners met March 7

Here are the minutes provided by the board: 

Members Present: Amy Hoose, Dr Stephen Nacco, Larry Fredericks, and George Dowell

Members Absent: Bethany Hager

Staff Members Present: Police Chief Chris Yates, and Fire Chief Aaron Marcott

Others Present: 

Frank Brunacci

Interim Chairperson Hoose called the Board Meeting to order at 5:00 P.M. Roll call was taken.

THE MINUTES: 

Commissioner Dr. Stephen Nacco motioned to approved the minutes of the regular meeting held February 7th. 2023, seconded by Commissioner Larry Fredericks. On the voice vote, all ayes, no nays: the motion was so ordered.

THE AGENDA: Commissioner Dr. Stephen Nacco motioned to approve the agenda, seconded by George Dowell. On the voice vote, all ayes, no nays: the motion was so ordered.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: 

Resigned Frank Brunacci gratefully accepted the plaque presented to him by the board. Stated his time on the board was fun. There was good times and a different kind of hires that were interesting. Stated he enjoyed all (11) eleven years. Thanked the Chiefs for their services.

MAYOR'S COMMENTS: Acknowledged Franks service to the board with his leadership, commitment, excellent spirit, and the work put into helping the Police and Fire to be where they are today.

CHAIRPERSON COMMENTS: Thanked resigned Commissioner Frank Brunacci for attending the meeting and presented the plaque to him. Stated the board wanted to properly thank him for his time on the board. Pictures were taken. Acknowledged Chief Yates speech was inspiring while honoring Frank service. Stated they were busy with swearing ins and (2) two promotions in a week.

CORPORATION COUNSEL: Scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday March 14th. At 5:00 PM for interviewing and hiring possibly 4 police candidates. Commissioner Larry Fredericks advised Chief Marcott how he liked the firefighter Facebook page.

CLOSED SESSION: No closed session

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION: 

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY: 

Chief Marcott: Advised he hired the (5) five firefighter candidates. They are in their 2nd week of the academy. At the city council meeting he is going to ask to hire (6) six more firefighters. This will alleviate a lot of the overtime. The candidates are brought in the first week to get them prepped for the academy. They talk to them on how to deal with the public, and how to work on their financial and mental success. They have a new training officer. Advised the fireman's banquet is April 15th, 2023 and all will get an invitation.

Chief Yates: Acknowledged the hard work of the board while presenting the plaque to resigned commissioner Frank Brunacci. Stated his timeline cut off was a week ago for applications and testing. There is (7) seven backgrounds being processed. Is requesting a special meeting for next week to interview and possibly hire 4 good candidates. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday March 14th at 5:00 PM. Stated he has reserved spots at the academy. Advised he is operating under the new Bi-laws. Advised the (2) two new hires are in their shadow phase are doing excellent and should be on their own soon. The candidates in PTI are doing above average. Stated focusing on the (5) five-year strategic plan and wants to focus on the officer's well-being.

There being no further items to discuss, there was a motion by Commissioner Stephen Nocco to adjourn the regular meeting at 5:35 PM, seconded by Commissioner Larry Fredericks. On the voice vote, all ayes, no nays: the motion was so ordered.
