Chambana Sun

There were two offenders convicted of sex crimes living in Champaign County released on parole during the fourth quarter of 2021, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Chambana Sun.

The data shows both of the released offenders among the parolees were men. Of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes, one was a veteran, and the median age was 57. The younger parolee was a 50-year-old man sentenced in 2006, and the oldest was a 63-year-old man sentenced in 2003.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Frank James Sr. He was convicted in 2003 when he was 43 years old. He is now 63.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
