Champaign County Sheriff's Merit Commission met Dec. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

MEMBERS PRESENT: Michael Kirby, Cindy Cunningham, Oliver J. Clark

OTHERS PRESENT: Sheriff Heuerman

CALL TO ORDER

Chair Kirby called the meeting to order at 1:02 p.m. declaring a quorum present, the Chair proceeded with the meeting.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to approve the minutes from the April 27, 2022 meeting, seconded by Commissioner Clark.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Sheriff Heuerman checked the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office - there was no public participation.

ACTION ITEMS/DISCUSSION

Sheriff Heuerman requested the Commission to certify the list of promotional candidates for the position of Captain and Lieutenant within the Law Enforcement Division. He advised the Commission that there are nine applicants on the list. Discussion followed about the qualifications of the applicants. Commissioner Clark asked about getting a background on each applicant. Sheriff Heuerman advised the Commission is certifying that each applicant has the required years of service for the positions. Commissioner Cunningham moved to accept the list of candidates, seconded by Commissioner Clark, motion passed.

OTHER BUSINESS

There was no other business to discuss. Sheriff Heuerman did update the Commission on the progress of the County Plaza and jail addition. CCSO will relocate to the County Plaza in 2024 and the jail addition should be ready to open in 2024 as well, although we will more than likely still be housing inmates out of county.

Commissioner Cunningham congratulated Sheriff Heuerman on his re-election and commented that his first term as Sheriff went very well.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion to adjourn the meeting by Commissioner Cunningham; seconded by Commissioner Clark. The meeting adjourned at 1:16 p.m.
