City of Hoopeston Façade Committee met Nov. 21

City of Hoopeston Façade Committee met Nov. 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Meeting was called to order at 4:09pm with Alderman Lawson, Valarie Hinkle and Marta Pierce present. Packets were handed out that contained the current façade guidelines, TIF maps, current façade application form, a new façade application form with 2 updated areas. Also included, a list of 7 Illinois communities with façade programs like Hoopeston’s.

Members present went through the current guidelines, section by section. Under Eligibility, Lawson, Hinkle and Pierce all agree to add the word commercial to statement #1. Own a commercial building within the city limits of Hoopeston. Also, adding to the façade application a question asking if the property owner  has been awarded a façade grant in the past 5 years. The second addition to the application is requiring the owner’s signature to the following statement: I agree to comply with the guidelines and standards set forth by the City of  Hoopeston Façade program. I understand this is a voluntary program under  which the City has the right to approve or deny any project or proposal or  portion thereof.

Alderman Lawson raised the question to other members present if any other suggestions or changes were being recommended. It was decided that the current guidelines for Hoopeston were in line with other communities. Research showed most of these communities required prior approval by a committee or council before construction could begin on a project that was requesting a façade grant. Lawson, Hinkle and Pierce agreed, this should remain as part of Hoopeston’s Façade guideline requirements. With no other business, at 5:06pm meeting was adjourned.
