Champaign County taxpayers paid $575,608 in Special County Retailers Occupation Tax in September, according to Illinois tax records.

This is an increase over the month before when $517,604 was collected.

Taxpayers in Champaign County have paid $6.3 million in Special County Retailers Occupation Tax in the last 12 months.

The Special County Retailers Occupation Tax is collected for county governments use.

Illinois is the highest taxed state in the US.

A 2021 study from Wallet Hub found Illinois taxes are 38.95 percent higher than the national average.
