Champaign County Labor Committee met June 21.

I. Call to Order
Chair Summers called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
II. Roll Call
A verbal roll call was taken, and a quorum was declared present.
III. Approval of Agenda
MOTION by Ms. Rodriguez to approve the agenda; seconded by Mr. Harper. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED unanimously.
IV. Approval of Minutes
A. December 14, 2021
MOTION by Mr. Harper to approve the minutes of December 14, 2021; seconded by Mr. McGuire. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED unanimously.
V. Public Participation
Rita Carr, County Clerk employee, has worked for the County for eighteen years. She stated that inflation is up 9% and sited a Bloomberg Economics article stating Americans will spend an additional $5,200 this year. Using the typical raise that is given each year, she gave some figures to show how that raise will not cover the additional costs this year and explained that many employees are forced to work two or three jobs to make ends meet.
Laura Clark, Circuit Clerk employee and AFSCME Treasurer, has worked for the County for four and a half years. She explained how she has had to take on a second job and what her typical week looks like, working about fourteen hours a day. She explained how her job is important to keep the County running and requested the Committee show that they value the employees’ labor.
VI. Closed Session Pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2(c)2 to Consider Collective Negotiating Matters Between the County and its Employees or their Representatives
MOTION by Ms. Rodriguez to enter into closed session pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2(c) 2 to consider collective negotiating matters between Champaign County and its employees or their representatives. She further moved that the following individuals remain present; Kyle Patterson, Mary King, Beth Vanichtheeranont, Jenny Lokshin, Chris Stohr, Darlene Kloeppel, Barb Mann, Matt Banach, Peter Ladwein, Bill Colbrook, Tami Ogden, Judge Rosenbaum and Megan Robison and seconded by Mr. Harper. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED unanimously.
The committee entered into closed session at 5:13 p.m.
The committee resumed open session at 6:09 p.m.
VII. Other Business
A. Semi-annual closed session minutes review
MOTION by Ms. Rodriguez to follow the State’s Attorney’s recommendation for all closed session minutes to remain closed; seconded by Ms. Fortado. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED unanimously.
B. Approval of closed session minutes
1. December 14, 2021
MOTION by Mr. Harper to approve the closed session minutes of December 14, 2021; seconded by Ms. Rodriguez. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED unanimously.
