City of Urbana Human Relations Commission met Aug. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

MEMBERS PRESENT: Frances Rigberg, Julie Robinson Schaeffer, Asako Kenase-Leggett

MEMBERS ABSENT: Carol Bradford, Stacie Burnett, Rev. Florence Caplow(on leave), Megan McKissack, Peter Resnick

1. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL, AND DECLARATION OF QUORUM

Chair Frances Rigberg called this meeting of the Urbana Human Relations Commission to order at 5:30 p.m. Roll was taken. A quorum was not present.

2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Chair Frances Rigberg called for a motion to approve, but recognized no quorum present.

3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

No minutes approved due to lack of a quorum.

4. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

• There was none.

5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS

a. Brief discussion in regards to next meeting. A review of the notice to be posted by landlords and employers in regards to the rights of citizens from landlords and employers. Unable to approve, vote or make a resolution on the updated work.

6. NEW BUSINESS

a. Closed Session

• Unable to go into closed session or elect officers due to a lack of a quor

b. EEO Workforce Statistics

• Updated information requested for W.S. Darley was added to all of the HRC

Packets.

c. Officer’s Report

Updates to be given at the next meeting. However two cases have been closed, one for housing complaint. Another in regards to a call from a mother who was referred to a different department. One formal complaint received. Carla’s presentation to the Champaign County Community Coalition was canceled. Carla shared she participated in a Community Walk for Peace and various other community engagement activities.

7. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Frances Rigberg made a suggestion to discuss at the next meeting of possibly changing the name of the committee. It was noted the name change of the Human Relations Officer to that of the Human Rights and Equity Officer. It was shared the office named has been changed to Human Rights and Equity Office. One member has left the HRC. New member Asako Kenase-Leggett was introduced.

8. ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to come before the Commission, Frances Rigberg declared the meeting to be adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
