Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Champaign) has sponsored a bill that would make it a felony to sell or give a firearm to a felon, according to the Illinois General Assembly's website.

The bill, which was proposed by Rose on Oct. 13 and co-sponsored by seven senators, states that anyone in Illinois who sells or gives a firearm to a convicted felon is guilty of a Class X felony and would face no less than 10 years and no more than 30 years in prison.

“A period of probation, a term of periodic imprisonment, or conditional discharge shall not be imposed for the offense,” the bill states.

Other senators who have since signed on as co-sponsors include Sens. Neil Anderson (R-Moline), Donald DeWitte (R-West Dundee), Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro), Jason Plummer (R-Vandalia), Win Stoller (R-Peoria), Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) and Dan McConchie (R-Lake Zurich).

Rose has been a Republican state senator for Illinois since 2013. He not only sponsored the bill, known as SB2925, but also introduced the Fund the Police Act this month. This act is designed to fund police to help them protect and serve the public as well as themselves while on the job, North West Illinois News reported. This includes paying for overtime, adding to police forces, providing training and tending to mental health issues that arise while on the job.
