City of Hoopeston Historic Preservation Commission Met March 23.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm

II. Roll Call - 6 members present: Jeanette Andre’, Valarie Hinkle, Kristy Kelnhofer, Ellen Scharlach, Marta Pierce & Brad Hardcastle.

III. Motion to approve minutes from March 9th meeting was made by Jeanette and a second by Kristy. All in favor, motion passed.

IV. Committee Reports:

A) Events: Looking for someone to replace Charlene Ervin as chair, for the oldest/ the youngest contest. No horse show, replacing with a small petting zoo and moving to downtown on Wednesday, June 30th to join the kid’s movie/magic show at Lorraine. The Community Church Service will be led by the Baptist Church and the New Beginnings Church. Will post an announcement in JTF, The Chronicle & WHPO Radio inviting all churches to attend. Welcome Center will be open the Saturday before the first event. The Silgan tour has had several people sign up.

B) Fundraising: Luck of the Irish Cash Raffle, Week 4 $100 winner was Larry Jahn with the final drawing on March 31st, $200 winner – DiAnne Griffin. Total tickets sold - #266. After the $600 total payout, a profit of $2,060. A new raffle will start on April 1st, with a donation from Pierce Grove Landscaping of a push behind lawnmower, a Husqvrana all-wheeldrive with bagger, valued at $530 plus an Echo gas trimmer valued at $200 was donated by Do It Best Olympic Hardware. Selling raffle tickets at $20. A 1st and 2nd place winner to be drawn on April 30, 2021. The proposal for a Hoopeston Anniversary book to be written by Walsworth Publishing with a minimum order is 500 books was almost $28,000. Everyone agreed, way out of our budget. A golf cart parade fundraiser organized by Lisa & Allen Kinney will take place on May 30 at 2pm, starting at Lorraine theatre, end at John Greer.

Cart decorating contest in patriotic or Hoopeston history. Prizes will be awarded at the school. A raffle for the week of events was suggested by Sharon Dixon. She is willing to make the prize basket but will be gone the week of the Sesquicentennial. She will try to find someone to substitute for her.

A couple of donations have come in recently. Ellen would like Sesquicentennial letter head for thank you notes.

C) Historical – Self guided Church Walk, Kristy reported that Judy has all but 2 churches to participate Still trying to contact Apostolic Church and the Cowboy Church. Judy would like large ribbons for each church to show they are participating. Kristy has also talked with Nora Gholson and they are working on gathering historic items for display, they will need volunteers to get the photo boards done. Marilyn has started on the Then and Now booklet. Video of the cemetery tours will be filmed as is, no voiceover will be done. Tom Sweeney thought it would take to much extra time. The Downtown History Walk will be sponsored by the Hoopeston Public Library with stipulations. Brad will contact Trisha at the Library to see what and why there seems to be so many guidelines on this event.

D) July 3rd Events: Debbie, not in attendance but was in contact with Brad and Marta. She would like to book M&B Sounds in Covington. Jeanette motioned to accept the $2500 bid and sign the contract from M&B Sounds. Kristy seconded the motion. All in favor, motion passed.

E) Marketing: Commissioner Polos were handed out. Logo’s will send bill to HPC at the city address. T-shirts – We will sell tees at $15 and extended sizes for $17. McKenzie from Logo’s Unlimited stated  she can do $9.50/tee for adult small – x-large, $11 for XXL or XXXL. A motion by Valarie to purchase screen printed t-shirts, not heat transferred from Logos Unlimited in the following sizes: 24 small, 24 med, 48 large, 48 XL, 24 XXL and 12XXXL, in each color of heathered grey, white and hunter green.

Kristy seconded motion. All in favor, motion passed.

F) Executive: Sesquicentennial collector coins. Brad found a 2” coin, minimum order of #300 with logo.

Cost of $3 each. Tabled until next meeting.

V. Unfinished Business: Order 2 Banners with grommets from Craftsman Printing for Park sign at $220. Valarie motion to purchase banners for park, Kristy made a second. All in favor, motion passed.

Valarie reported on behalf of Kim Burch for the Welcome Center. Order flags from Hall of Fame. 2 windsock flags as presented for $110. Kristy motion to purchase flags at $110 and Jeanette seconded motion. All in favor, motion passed.

VI. New Business: Next Meeting, April 13th, 2021 at 7pm in city hall conference room.

VIII. Adjourn: a motion to adjourn at 8:40pm was made by Jeanette, with a second from Kristy. All in favor.
