Illinois is on track to enter the fifth and final phase of the Restore Illinois plan to reopen businesses and resume normal recreation activities fully, officials said in a release.
According to the release, the state is currently entering the Bridge Phase of the Restore Illinois plan. It will follow the guidance of public health experts to "move forward with a dial-like approach" through Phase 4 stages towards the post-pandemic new normal of Phase 5.
Illinois State Sen. Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) took to Facebook to encourage Illinois residents.
"We are almost to the finish line," Bennett wrote in a May 14 Facebook post. "Illinois has officially entered the Bridge Phase of our recovery plan, and our daily lives are one step closer to normal. Let’s stay the course so we can get to Phase 5 — Illinois Restored — as soon as possible."
The Bridge to Phase 5 will feature increased capacity limits in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Illinois will follow certain metrics to guide the state's reopening plan. The Bridge to Phase 5 will begin once 70% of residents 65 and older have been vaccinated and a 28-day monitoring period passes without any reversals in COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths.
Restrictions for lower-risk activities previously not permitted or only allowed at lower capacities during Phase 4 have been relaxed following new studies and data on virus transmission.
