Chicago (53,375 cases) and Cook County (38,865 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,631, while Cook County recorded 1,991 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,734,471, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 25,588 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 69,190 were male and 74,740 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,805, while female deaths stood at 3,204.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,121 Asians, 3,121 whites, 1,956 African-Americans, 1,447 Hispanics, and 163 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
