Champaign County Chamber of Commerce Inc issued the following announcement on July 1.
Like many events this year, COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the Chamber’s annual ag event, Come Wine With Us. In lieu of the event this year, the Chamber will be celebrating agriculture and agribusinesses in Champaign County throughout the month of July. Ag Month will kick off July first with a special note from current agribusiness committee chair, Beth Bolger, marketplace initiatives manager at Farm Credit Illinois.
Ag Month will culminate with keynote speaker, principal atmospheric scientist for Nutrien Ag Solutions and former University of Illinois professor, Eric Snodgrass on Tuesday, July 28 beginning at 9:00 a.m. Eric’s presentation will be a virtual event entitled, “The Wild Side of Weather” and will discuss how successful production agriculture has many sources of risk including weather conditions and forecasts that change constantly. Using history combined with current forecasting models Eric will share how weather drives so much of our decision making.
Throughout July raffle tickets for the Chamber’s annual wine raffle will be available to purchase for $20. Each raffle ticket enters the purchaser into a raffle for 75 bottles of wine provided by Sun Singer Wine & Spirits. The 75 bottles of wine will be a mix of whites and reds and will feature Illinois wineries like Champaign-native, Alto Vineyards, as well as other brands. The winner of the wine raffle will be announced at the end of Eric’s presentation on July 28.
Ag month will also feature a weekly raffle ticket contest on the Chamber’s Facebook page, a weekly ag e-newsletter and spotlights on several agribusiness across the county via Facebook Live interviews.
