City of Hoopeston City Council met December 17

City of Hoopeston City Council met Dec. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

I. Call to Order

Mayor Crusinberry called the regular council meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. following the Pledge of Allegiance.

II. Roll Call

Clerk Lane conducted roll call. All eight council members were present as was Attorney Brougher.

III. Approval of Agenda

Houmes moved to approve the agenda after the date correction from December 19 to December 17 was made. Yaden seconded the motion. Council approved the agenda as corrected 8-0.

IV. Clerk Lane read minutes of the prior meeting. Houmes moved to approve seconded by Lawson. Minutes were approved 8-0.

V. No Presentations

VI. Payment of Bills

Houmes moved to approve payment of bills presented seconded by Lawson. Roll call vote was taken, and bills were approved for payment 8-0.

VII. Report of Officers

a) Ankenbrand had nothing to report.

b) Florek had nothing to report.

c) Goodwine had nothing to report.

d) Wise reported that leaf clean-up was completed. He also reported that the street and alley employees were out very early clearing the streets the morning following the snowfall.

e) Houmes reported that temporary part time employees are being let go for the season. Clean up will begin around the Lagoon. City streetlights are still being replaced.

f) Lawson had nothing to report.

g) McElhaney had nothing to report.

VIII. No petitions to council.

IX. No Communications to council.

X. Unfinished business

The building committee will need to meet. Some of the rooms in the municipal building have been rearranged to provide a room out of the hallway for those waiting to see police.

XII. Mayor Comments

The mayor announced that four bids were received for the demolition of the building at 202/204 N. Market Street. All met the specs. Houmes moved to award Silver Brothers the bid as they had the lowest bid. Goodwine seconded the motion. Roll call vote was taken and the bid of $6970.00 from Silver Brothers was approved 8-0.

Other comments and information:

The Insurance Company is waiting on the Fire Marshall to move forward with action on the burned-out bar.

Hoopeston Retirement Village Foundation has taken possession of the Vermilion Iron Building.

Asbestos removal is to be done on the Essex building. A follow up will be done in January with the attorney.

Alderman Ankenbrand announced a Police Committee will be held after Christmas on December 26 at 2:00 P.M.

XIII. Executive session

Ankenbrand moved to go into Executive session to discuss personnel seconded by Houmes.

Council went into Executive Session at 7:26 p.m. with a vote of 8 to 0.

Ankenbrand moved to come out of Executive Session seconded by Lawson. Council came out of executive session at 7:40 p.m. 8-0. No action was taken.

Houmes move to adjourn seconded by Lawson.

Council adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
