City of Hoopeston City Council met Jan. 7.
Here is the minutes provided by the council:
I. Call to Order
Mayor Crusinberry called to order the regular council meeting of the City of Hoopeston at 7:00 p.m. City Hall.
II. Roll Call
Clerk Lane conducted Roll Call. All eight council members were present as was attorney Wessner.
III. Approval of Agenda
Alderman Houmes moved to approve the agenda with a second by Lawson. Agenda was approved 8 – 0.
IV. Minutes of Prior Meeting
Houmes moved to approve the minutes with a second from Lawson. Minutes of the prior meeting were approved 8-0.
V. Presentations
Republic Service representatives Tony Moore and Toby Wolfe addressed council regarding the garbage service contracted with the city. Furniture and construction waste should not be placed in the totes or left beside them. The equipment is not able to handle those types of trash. The city provides bulk trash disposal twice a month for furniture, mattresses and other bulk items that the route trucks are unable to handle. More than one tote is allowed at each residence. VI. Payment of Bills
Alderman Houmes moved to approve payment of bills seconded by Yaden. Roll call vote was taken, and bills were approved for payment 8-0.
VII. Report of Officers
a) Alderman Ankenbrand reported that the police committee had met and discussed costs and other issues pertaining to supporting a K-9 Unit. More work is to be done by the committee
Also, a squad car purchase is possible in the near future.
HART is planning to expand their building.
b) Florek had nothing to report.
c) Goodwine had nothing to report.
d) Wise reported that the Street and Alley committee had met. Over 80 trees have been removed and 78 stumps have been ground out.
Alley grading will be done in some of the alleys.
Be aware of Snow routes when the weather hits.
There have been some issues with dumping on the city slab.
An ad is out looking for an employee.
e) Yaden had nothing to report.
f) Houmes thanked the light committee for the Lights at the Park and the efficiency getting them down.
g) Lawson reported that the new fire engine will be delivered in June or July. Engine 5 will be sold.
Cash Bash tickets are on sale.
h) McElhaney had nothing to report.

X. Unfinished Business
The Essex Building was brought up. Council members are wondering what to do about the agreement not being fulfilled. Mayor Crusinberry will contact the attorney in the matter.

XII. Mayor Comments
Congratulations to the recipients of the Community Awards.
Tracy, the city engineer will be moving on and is being replaced by Tim Cowan.
The mayor updated council on work being done on various projects throughout the city as well as upcoming projects.
A reminder that door to door solicitors must have a city license.
Ankenbrand commented that shingles are being replaced at Prairie Meadows.
XIII. Public Comment
Stan Steiner asked about the taxes on phones and utilities wondering how much the city gets from these taxes.
THE Insurance carrier of Bzzs Bar has released the building, but the fire marshal has not completed their ruling.
Joel Bird asked that anyone interested in working as an election judge to call the county clerk office.
